Yamaha YAS-23 Alto Saxophone

The Yamaha YAS-23 is an alto saxophone for beginner and intermediate players, and it has long been a familiar name in school band rooms and teaching studios. If you’re choosing a first alto, or replacing a hand-me-down that’s holding you back, this model is worth a close look.

The YAS-23 is known for good intonation, which spares newer players a lot of frustration. When the instrument sits reliably in tune, it is easier to train your ear and fit in with a section. Smooth key action and an ergonomic layout help with comfort through long practice sessions and make it easier to build clean finger technique. The body is yellow brass with a brass finish, and the tone is often described as warm and rich, a pleasant sound to grow into as your playing develops.
